Course Outline
A How‐To Guide for CAMBRA
A changing paradigm in caries management has widened our decision in dental
preventive care. With terms such as minimally invasive and remineralization
technologies, we are faced with a new decision model in diagnosing and treating the
caries disease process. This program introduces the exciting new trends in
desensitization, topical fluorides, prophy pastes and varnish therapies.
PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Identify the diagnostic changes utilized in evaluating the caries process
- Discuss and implement the use of the CAMBRA risk assessment tool
- Identify the practice settings and patient clientele that benefits from the remineralization therapies
- Discuss the latest diagnostic technology in screening and tracking caries patterns
- List the key steps in the medical model in identifying and treatingcaries
- Compare and discuss the current delivery systems which contain technologies claiming enamel restoration and remineralization
- Identify the top five women’s health concerns as they relate to the aging process.
- Link risk factors common to systemic diseases and identify oral concerns from medication use.
- Discuss the dental hygiene process of care in order to ensure optimal care.
- Explore tailored treatment protocol’s and product recommendations best suited for those with medical and/or oral concerns.
- Share credible findings from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Women’s Health Initiative for and about women.
- Review the impact of bacteria and inflammation in the oral cavity and throughout the body.
- Review and update information about established connections between oral health and systemic conditions including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and oral bisphosphonate therapy for the osteoporosis patient.
- Understand the impact of the latest oral-systemic link evidence on the practice of general dentistry and present guidelines for the dental management of patients with systemic comorbidities.
- Discuss the risk benefit ratio of treating osteoporosis with oral bisphosphonates.
- Credential the benefit of routine dental care for all osteoporotic patients.
- Share proposed criteria for oral procedures while taking bisphosphonates.
Biography
Patti DiGangi RDH, BS is a vision‐driven person finding strength and direction from
her inner convictions. Like most true visionaries, she views obstacles as learning
experiences that can be used for self‐development. As life‐long learner, her energetic,
thought provoking and successful program development and mind bending view of what
can be shines a bright light for others to preview the future and find their place in it.
Patti’s articles appear regularly in RDH Magazine, Dental Economics, Inside Dentistry and
she is a regular contributor to DentistryIQ.com. She is member of the 2010 Dental
Products Report Perio Clinical 360 Team. Patti is currently co‐writing a book on minimal
intervention philosophy.
Patti is a certified presenter through Academy of General Dentistry National Speaker’s
Bureau for Periodontal Disease and a member of multiple key opinion leader boards. She
is also on the Advisory Board for the National Museum of Dentistry, a member of the
Linda Miles Speaking & Consulting Network, and a Coach for CareerFusion (a learning
continuum for healthcare professionals seeking growth and development to enhance
