Over $15,000 Raised To Help Rotaplast Canada!

ScotiaMcLeod will match every dollar raised through the silent auction, up to a maximum of $5,000.00, helping to ensure even more children receive life changing dental and medical care.

Our 2009 recipient is Rotaplast Canada. Created by Rotary International-Rotoplast is a charitable organization that funds free reconstructive plastic surgery, dental treatments and speech therapy to children in developing countries born with cleft lip and palate anomalies and others, when possible, suffering from serious disfiguring medical conditions. Rotaplast Canada (founded in Kelowna) works with Rotaplast International, based in San Francisco, to coordinate these dental and medical missions and supports their goals of eliminating the incidence of untreated cleft lips and palates in children worldwide, promoting self sufficiency in developing countries where we help train local physicians, family counselors and collaborating with health officials on the development of sustainable cleft palate programs.

Rotaplast Canada involves Canadian Rotarians, non-Rotarians, and medical professionals interested in participating in the medical missions. Through the generous support of Rotarians, Rotary Clubs, and individual, organizational and corporate donors, Rotaplast Canada has its in first four years provided financial and volunteer support for missions to the Philippines, Vietnam, Ethiopia, India and China, helping change the lives of over 600 children.

The next mission is to Bahir Dar, Ethiopia in November 2009. The team is comprised of dental and medical professionals and men and women volunteers from the Thompson Okanagan Region and the team includes an Oral Surgeon, Orthodontist and Dental Personal that are also all volunteers.

TODS Annual Silent Auction Continues!

As part of the TODS ongoing commitment to both the professional and general community, a yearly fundraising activity is held to provide funding to dental and community organizations and charities. Over the past five years the TODS Meeting has hosted a Silent Auction, on the Friday of our meeting which is coordinated by our Chair of Fundraising, Gayle Faigan.

Gayle Faigan is a dedicated volunteer and does an exceptional job of gathering items that are generously donated by the dental community in the Thompson Okanagan Dental Region together with local sponsors and exhibitors that attend the TODS Meeting. Gayle also works with the charity or organization to set up the auction and coordinate the auction on site.

The Thompson Okanagan Dental Society would like to pass along its most sincere congratulations to Gayle Faigan and her team for raising almost $14,000.00 for the Department of Oral Oncology at the Cancer Centre of the Southern Interior of British Columbia.

Our fundraising efforts have benefited the Certified Dental Assistant Program at Okanagan College, The Gospel Mission Dental Unit, Save a Smile Fund, and the Cancer Centre of the Southern Interior – Dental Unit. Gayle and her team have raised in excess of $40,000.00 and those funds directly benefit these organizations and indirectly all members of the dental community within our region.
